Rota Fortunae: 일만이천봉, 2025
Acrylic, oil, and oil stick on canvas
60 × 60 cm

Rota Fortunae: 일만이천봉 brings together symbolic motifs and material textures explored throughout my practice, reconfiguring them into a landscape shaped by Korea’s four distinct seasons. At its centre is Mount Kumgang, affectionately known as Ilmanicheonbong(일만이천봉), or “12,000 peaks,” a landscape that has long carried multiple images and meanings in Korean cultural memory. The title Rota Fortunae (Wheel of Fortune) reflects the cycles of nature and life—the repetition of seasons and the recovery and hope that emerge after hardship.
